December 2009 Archive
Martinis and Mistletoe at Cheekwood’s Botannic Hall kicked off the holiday season in smashing style. The social set gathered Friday, December 4th to eat, drink martinis and be merry. Guests danced the night away to the funky booty-shakin’ sounds of “Dwanna and the Primetime Band” provided courtesy of Prime Source Entertainment. Dwanna brought down a packed house with a fantastic 4-hour set that kept the dance floor swinging into the wee- hours of the morning. Revelers two-stepped, ears a’ringin and cookies in hand out into the winter evening after a wonderfully festive kick off to the holiday season.

Your wedding is the biggest event of your life. From rehearsal to reception, you carefully plan every detail; ensuring the memories of your love celebration last a lifetime. Enhancing your special moment with the best wedding music and entertainment isn’t just a detail, it’s a necessity. Most wedding bands and musicians will make every effort to accommodate your needs and requests on your wedding day.
Many Wedding Bands Can and Will:
Announce the members of your wedding party as they enter the reception and make general announcements.
Provide recorded music while on breaks so the party never stops. The music can be CDs that either you or the band provide or simply let them use your IPod. Each band offers different unique opportunities so please discuss this with your agent when contracting your entertainment.
Take requests from their repertoire prior to the reception, and will accommodate as many of your requests as they can during the performance.
Most bands are willing to learn one or more songs as a special request for each reception, i.e. for a first dance (given 60 days notice within a reasonable music style). They can also play the requested song though the sound system on CD by the original artist.
Provide a state-of-the-art professional sound system to ensure clear sound at an acceptable volume.
Work with YOU and your wedding coordinator or wedding planner to ensure a smooth flow to your reception and will help to solve any problems that may arise to make your reception a complete success!
Please confirm with your agent the specific capabilities and procedures of the band or bands you are interested in. For thousands of years, live music has played an important role in marriage ceremonies all over the world. Celebrate your moment with Music!

Every event is different and each client’s needs should be treated differently. Begin by discussing the type of music you’re looking for, the type of event, the nature of your guests and audience, and your budget. Based on these criteria, we will send you information such as demo CDs, videos, photos, bios, song lists and references on different band options. Most of this information is also available through our website and our YouTube channel. In addition, we will tell you about different events and venues to see the band perform live. We will answer your questions, offer advice, and guide you through the entire process.
Once you’ve decided on a band, your agent will negotiate with the band to get YOU the best price. Once a price is agreed upon, we issue contracts. You will sign and return the contracts along with an advance deposit and advance sheets that will give the band all of the information they will need to perform for you. The artist will now sign and return the completed contract and a copy will be mailed to you. The contract is now complete. Now you can Make a Memory!

Let’s start with the stage or stage area. Dance bands typically need a stage, performance area or floor space of approximately 20’x12’, but that is not a hard and fast rule as some bands may take up more or less room. Jazz or acoustic trios or quartets may be able to fit in a space 16’x12’ or smaller, while a larger 10 or 12 piece dance bands may need 24’x16’ or larger. The band will try to make it work for you and your reception location, but please discuss any unusual stage/area constraints with your agent prior to booking.
How long will my band play?
Bands will generally take a few short breaks in a 3 to 4 hour event, but they are happy to schedule breaks to accommodate the natural flow of your reception (cutting your cake or taking pictures). A lot of bands are now offering continuous music now. Always ask the question when discussing you band with your agent. They want to play as much music as possible!
How long will it take to set up and load out?
Some bands typically need access to the stage area to set up 2 to 3 hours prior to a performance, and it often takes 1 to 2 hours to break down their equipment after they play (this may vary depending on the size and style of your band).
What else do I need to do? Since most bands have traveled to your venue, they will need a place to change clothes and lock up their valuables. Will they be hungry? Of course you know the answer. If possible, offer them a warm meal. This will keep them at the venue and keep things on time.
Now that this is all done, sit back, enjoy the music and make memories!
